Roosevelt High School
History Walk
Los Angeles, CA • opening 2026
The Roosevelt High School History Walk celebrates the legacy of social justice work by student activists over the 100-year history of the school. Students at Roosevelt High School and the surrounding community of Boyle Heights have taken a central role in resisting oppression, fighting for justice, being resilient in the face of discrimination, organizing for equitable treatment and resources, and reimagining their community and world.
The exhibit presents this story over five chapters that explore the themes: Reimagination, Equity, Resistance, Justice and Resilience. The design and placement of the exhibit structures (as places to gather) allows them to be a teaching tool in the school environment and encourages student engagement with the history at Roosevelt High School.
Each chapter highlights the unique and rich multicultural history of RHS and Boyle Heights (including the 1968 East LA Walkouts and the Chicano Civil Rights Movement in Los Angeles), so that current students and alumni see themselves reflected in the story and photographs.
Developed with Picnic Design. Red Cape Studio was hired to design the physical layout and structures for the exhibition.
